- Oil Spill
-
- Following is from a western oil industry source with 30
- years experience in the Gulf. He is under orders from his
- company not to talk to the press and cannot be
- identified.
-
- "From my point of view all this environmental thing is
- being hyped for political reasons. More BTU's have been
- going up every day in Sibera for decades. You're going to
- kill a lot of fish. You're going to kill a lot of birds,
- but when you shut the thing off things will get better.
- It's a short term nightmare. Krakatoa was much more
- severe as a natural catastrophe.
-
- "Eventually, the slick is going to weather. It will turn
- into little tar balls that sink to the bottom. It should
- not affect the desalinization plants because they put
- booms and fine nets out to separate the oil from the
- water. You can use skimmers to vacuum it up. The currents
- will take it to the middle of the Gulf and it will
- disperse.
-
- "It should not have any effect on an amphibious landing
- either. It makes you really messy. It's very sticky and
- you look terrible, but the guys could get through it.
- Tactically or any other way it means zilch. It's just
- going to get oilier and oilier, the more the Iraqis
- release and that means more dead birds and fish."
